Part of the reason I ran for a position was because I was encouraged to run by a faculty member. I also think the house advisors are critical when it comes to encouraging students within the houses to run for positions, especially if the student was on a house team.
Well, I think we have great role models...I'm thinking specifically about the science department, because I'm a science major, but I'm hoping this applies to other departments as well...I've had an equal number of male and female professors in chem and bio, and I've found them all to be encouraging and so accomplished!
Welcome to the Women & Leadership at Vassar blog. This blog is a project started by Strong House in attempt to create dialogue about the ways in which women engage in leadership roles on campus.
In the last three years...
0 of 3 VSA Presidents have been women.
8 of 14 VSA Exec members have been women.
6 of 26 House Presidents have been women (and 3 of them had to be women from Strong)!
2 of 12 Class Presidents have been women.
Did you know?
Since 2002-03, only 21 of 62 house presidents have been women
Of the last 10 VSA Presidents, 4 were women, 6 were men. Most recently, there are have been five consecutive male VSA presidents.
Of 53 VSA Exec Board members, 25 were women, 28 were men.
